How to Use SmartFuel
Everything you need to get a clean, safe flame from your SmartFuel products. If you don't see your question here, reach out and we'll help.
How long does one fill burn?
Burn time depends on the product and how high you run the flame:
- Ethanol Gel Fuel burns about 2.5 to 3 hours per can (3,000 BTU).
- 6-Hour Chafing Fuel burns up to 6 hours per can.
- Bio Ethanol Fireplace Fuel and Roundfire come in 1-liter (33.8 fl oz) bottles. Burn time varies with the size of your burner and how wide the flame is set, so a smaller, lower flame will last noticeably longer than a wide-open one.
- Torch and lamp oils burn according to your torch or lamp's wick and reservoir size.
You can refill once the burner has fully cooled (see below).
Indoor vs. outdoor use
Pick the fuel that matches where you'll burn it:
- Bio Ethanol Fireplace Fuel, Ethanol Gel Fuel, and Paraffin Lamp Oil are suitable for both indoor and outdoor use.
- 6-Hour Chafing Fuel is ideal for indoor use, like buffets and catering.
- Citronella-Scented Torch Fuel is made for outdoor use, such as tiki torches.
For any enclosed indoor space, keep a window or vent slightly open so fresh air can circulate.
How to store SmartFuel
Store in a cool, dry place away from direct heat, flames, and sunlight. Always keep the cap tightly closed to prevent evaporation, and keep containers upright and out of reach of children and pets. Never store fuel next to a lit or hot burner.
Spills & cleanup
If you spill while filling, stop and wipe it up completely before lighting anything. Never pour fuel onto hot surfaces, and never light a burner if there's spilled fuel nearby. Use a dry cloth, make sure the surrounding surface is clean and dry, and dispose of used cloths safely, away from heat.
Is it safe indoors?
Yes, when used correctly. SmartFuel bioethanol burns clean, with no smoke, no soot, and no odor, which is what makes it suited for indoor use. The essentials:
- Keep a window or vent slightly open for ventilation.
- Never pour fuel into a lit fire or near a source of ignition.
- Allow the burner to cool for at least 20 minutes (cool to the touch) before refilling.
- Never leave a flame unattended.
Follow those basics and you get a real, warm flame indoors, without the mess of wood or the fumes of traditional fuels.
Always read the usage and safety instructions on your product label before first use.
